Sniper Blamed for Shot Into Car

Share

A roadside sniper shot out the right rear passenger window of a southbound automobile on the Harbor Freeway near Florence Avenue Friday, but police said there were no injuries and no clues to the identity of the shooter.

Officer Dominic Lombardo of the 77th Street police station said the driver was taking his brother and sister-in-law, who were visiting from Japan, on a sightseeing tour when the shots were fired.

No one was hurt, although the woman passenger was showered with glass, and none of the people in the car remembered seeing anyone point a gun at them. Lombardo said there was no apparent motive for the shooting.

He said it was assumed that the shot was fired by someone on the roadside since the car was in the outside lane with no other vehicles to its right.
