As expected, members of all eight Southern California union locals representing retail clerks overwhelmingly ratified a new three-year contract their negotiators reached with six major supermarket chains last week, the United Food and Commercial Workers announced. The vote was 15,314 (89.6%) to approve the contract and 1,787 (10.4%) to reject it. The chains involved in the negotiations were Albertson’s, Lucky, Ralphs, Safeway, Stater Bros. and Vons.
