A 32-night harness-racing meeting will start tonight at Los Alamitos.

The track will operate Tuesday through Saturday nights through Oct. 10, with first post at 7:30.

Four divisions of the Electioneer Futurity--for 3-year-old trotting and pacing colts and fillies--will highlight the season. Those races, with purses estimated at $185,000, are scheduled for Sept. 26, 29 and 30, and Oct. 2.

The harness season at Los Alamitos comes on the heels of the successful 14-night Orange County Fair meeting for thoroughbreds and other breeds, which closed Saturday night at the Orange County track.

Operating in August instead of July, as in 1986, the fair averaged 8,213 fans and $1.3 million in wagering a night. Those figures were 6% above the previous year’s.

Corey Black won 17 races in taking the thoroughbred jockey title that he shared with Antonio Castanon a year ago. Hector Palma and Mike Mitchell shared the training title with six winners apiece.
