A group of National Basketball Assn. players, in Manila to play a series of exhibition games, was caught in the middle of the failed attempt by rebel soldiers to overthrow Philippine President Corazon Aquino’s government. No members of the team were injured.

The team arrived in the Philippines last week as part of a promotion by Pro-Serv, Inc., a Washington-based firm, and was scheduled to play games Friday and Saturday. Officials told the team to stay at their hotel.

The Philadelphia Daily News reported that various sources said the group includes Adrian Dantley and Mark Eaton of Utah, Eric (Sleepy) Floyd of Golden State, Tom Chambers of Seattle, Alvin Robertson and Johnny Dawkins of San Antonio, Buck Williams of New Jersey, Jeff Malone of Washington, Dudley Bradley of Milwaukee, Cleveland Cavaliers Coach Lenny Wilkens, Seattle SuperSonics Coach Bernie Bickerstaff, referee Bennett Salvatore and Laker trainer Gary Vitti.
