A South Los Angeles youngster, wet from a dip in a public swimming pool, died of an electrical shock from a faulty light pole. Sheriff’s Deputy Steve Lee said Antonio Parker, 12, had just left the Washington Park pool in the 8900 block of Maie Avenue when he leaned against a metal light standard that apparently had shorted and delivered a shock that was sufficient to stop the boy’s heart. Lee said lifeguards were unable to revive Parker, who was pronounced dead on arrival at Los Angeles County-Martin Luther King Jr. Drew Medical Center. The pool and surrounding six-block-long park will be closed until homicide detectives complete an investigation, he said.
