A United Airlines 767 being pushed backward from a loading gate at Los Angeles International Airport struck a parked Continental Airlines DC-10, but no one was injured. United Manager of Operations Tom McDonald said the wing of United Flight 98, which was being moved by a tractor, hit the tail cone of the Continental airplane, causing minor damage to both aircraft. None of the 144 passengers aboard Flight 98 were injured, but they had to take a later flight, McDonald said. Continental spokesman Jim Brigance said the Continental jetliner had just arrived from Denver, had no passengers on board and was not scheduled to depart that night. The mishap was under investigation.
