Panel to Study Choices for Coliseum
The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum Commission named a four-member committee to examine “all options” for the future management of the Coliseum complex, including leasing the facilities to a private management firm. The committee was ordered to report back next month.
Mike Antonovich, chairman of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors and a champion of the private management concept, was named by Commission President Alexander Haagen to chair the panel. Others members named were Los Angeles City Councilman Robert Farrell and attorneys Richard Riordan and Fred Riedman.
Companies that manage the Spectrum in Philadelphia, the Astrodome in Houston and the Forum in Inglewood are among those that have made proposals to lease the Coliseum and adjacent Sports Arena. Also, USC has offered to buy the Sports Arena.
