Four Marines were killed Thursday night when their helicopter crashed during training exercises over the Marine Corps Base at Camp Pendleton, military officials said.
The identities of the victims were withheld pending notification of next of kin.
A CH-46 Echo copter, called a Sea Knight, crashed about 8:15 p.m. in a remote inland area of the base spokesman Lt. Gene Browne. He said the four crewmen died immediately in the crash.
“They were in the process of conducting night maneuvers, basically routine night training,” Browne said.
