An Oceanside man shot out the rear window of a car filled with El Camino High School students early Thursday because the students had been “toilet-papering” his yard, police said.

No one was injured, but Charles Ryan, 40, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, Oceanside Police Department spokesman Bob George said.

Fourteen teen-agers, mostly El Camino High School football players, went to Ryan’s home in the 2100 block of Steiger Lane about 12:45 a.m. to drape toilet paper from trees in his yard, George said. Ryan’s daughter is captain of the El Camino High School cheerleading team.

Ryan allegedly charged out of his house brandishing a shotgun, and the boys ran to their cars to make a getaway. Six boys were in the car when the window was shot out, George said. “Nobody was injured; I don’t know how or why they weren’t,” he said.
