A man police suspect is responsible for a three-week crime rampage involving robberies, car thefts and hit-and-run accidents in Burbank and surrounding areas was captured Thursday after a police officer saw him leaving the scene of a non-injury traffic accident in which he was involved, authorities said.

Salvatore DiMaggio, 32, of North Hollywood was arrested at 1:30 p.m. after he ran from the accident scene in the 200 block of North Pass Avenue, Sgt. Robert Kight said. After DiMaggio was captured, officers learned that the car he was driving had been stolen Monday and a credit card he carried had been stolen in a separate auto burglary, Kight said.

Kight said police had been looking for DiMaggio since Louis Brookman, 25, suspected of being his partner in the crimes, was arrested Aug. 19. Kight said detectives suspect that, beginning Aug. 12, DiMaggio, both with Brookman and by himself, was involved in a string of street robberies, burglaries, car thefts and accidents in Burbank, Hollywood, North Hollywood and Sherman Oaks.
