Anaheim : Man Shot While Trying to Rob Store, Police Say
A 38-year-old Anaheim man, who was shot in the head Friday as he allegedly tried to rob a liquor store, was reported in critical condition at Western Medical Center in Santa Ana late Saturday.
Richard P. Martinez was flown by helicopter to the hospital about 8 p.m. Friday after he was shot once at Brookhouse Liquor in the 800 block of N. Anaheim Boulevard.
Police said the suspect pulled a knife on a clerk and demanded cash. When the clerk ran to the rear of the store, the suspect followed, police said. The clerk then grabbed a .38-caliber handgun and fired two shots at the suspect, who was hit once in the forehead.
No charges have been filed against the clerk, but police said the case is under investigation.
