A reprieve has been granted for Poo Poo, the wild ferret who faced extermination. Merced Municipal Judge Robert Quall ordered the wild animal, banned in California, returned to Oklahoma, where it is legal to keep the animals as pets. The judge and public defender Franz Criego even pitched in $50 apiece to help pay the $352 fee demanded by the county animal shelter for housing Poo Poo during the last month. Poo Poo’s owner, Mike McGhee of Atwater, is out of work and couldn’t come up with the money. United Airlines offered to transport Poo Poo to Oklahoma for a cut-rate price of $56.
