Protesters continued their vigil at the Concord Naval Weapons Station where about 5,000 people held a mass demonstration prompted by last week’s amputation injury to a Vietnam veteran. The protesters were at the site where Brian Willson was hit by a munitions train during a protest against alleged arms shipments to Central America. There was no immediate estimate for the number of protesters at the site about 45 miles east of San Francisco, according to a spokesman for the Mount Diablo Peace Center. Willson remained in fair condition. Meanwhile, the gate to the station’s main entrance was fortified with bales of barbed wire, and concrete barriers were placed across the roadway. A 50-foot sign bearing the station name was covered with plastic in an apparent attempt to protect it from vandals.
