About 120 gallons of raw sewage spilled into the eastern side of Mission Bay when clogged pipes from a nearby recreational vehicle dumping station overflowed into a storm drain and into the bay, County Health Services spokesman Lyn Wallis said Tuesday.
Debris blocking the pipes at the dumping station, south of the Visitors Information Center, forced the backup early Monday, Wallis said.
A city crew posted signs along the affected shoreline for 100 yards on either side of the storm drain outlet. The County Health Services Department began sampling the water Tuesday to determine when it will be safe again for swimming and other water contact.
