Huntington Beach : Police to Switch From Tan to Blue Uniforms
Police officers will be wearing blue uniforms instead of tan ones by early 1988.
Police Chief Grover (Bill) Payne said this is a result of a movement by the state of California several years ago toward standardizing law enforcement uniform colors for state (tan), county (green) and municipal (blue).
The City Council voted recently to advance each officer his or her 1988 $500 uniform allowance to pay for the new outfits, a switch that won’t cost the city money.
Payne said a survey earlier this year indicated that most personnel favored blue uniforms.
