The design for a 3,700-acre regional recreation program for Ventura County, under study since 1984, has been unanimously approved by the county Board of Supervisors.

Ron Blackmore, manager of the planning and development division of the county’s General Services Agency, said that bids will be called for from parties interested in developing and operating the Happy Camp Canyon Park. Blackmore said it is anticipated that the park will be ready for full use within the next three years. The park is located west and north of Moorpark College.

Blackmore said that 3,000 acres will be preserved as wilderness for day use only, and the remaining 700 acres will provide a golf course, a 90,000-square feet interpretive and conference center, equestrian center, picnic areas and open space.
