Anaheim : Driver Kills Passenger, Then Self, on Freeway

In an apparent murder-suicide, a man speeding along the Riverside Freeway shot and killed his female passenger before turning the gun on himself, then careening off the road, authorities said Sunday.

Investigators said they could find no motive in the deaths Saturday night and did not know the relationship between Gustavo Tafolla Suarez, 21, of Huntington Beach, the driver, and Rosalba Martinez, 25, of Anaheim.

Police Sgt. Tom Beardman said the first call to police came shortly after 9 p.m. Saturday, reporting an injury accident at the Lakeview Avenue exit of the Riverside Freeway near Anaheim Hills.

Beardman said Suarez apparently was eastbound on the freeway when the shootings occurred. The Chevrolet Camaro he was driving then ran off the freeway and up an embankment, where it came to a stop. No other vehicles were involved, Beardman said.
