Pitcher Ron Darling of the New York Mets underwent a successful operation to repair torn ligaments in the base of his right thumb.
Dr. Richard Eaton performed the 45-minute surgery at Roosevelt Hospital. Darling, scheduled to be released today, is expected to be in a cast for four weeks.
