Compton : Tucker Enter Innocent Plea

Share

The wife of Compton Mayor Walter R. Tucker pleaded innocent Wednesday to a series of charges of real estate fraud, forgery, grand theft and embezzlement that accuse her of taking $162,500 from investors and business clients over the past five years.

Martha Tucker, 51, appeared in court with her co-defendant and sister, Barbara Hall, 44, who also pleaded innocent to related charges against her, according to Assistant Atty. Gen. Terry T. Fujimoto. If convicted, Mrs. Tucker could receive up to 18 years in state prison, and Hall could receive up to seven years.

Both women were charged earlier this year with defrauding a wheelchair-bound Long Beach man out of $45,000 in an aborted real estate transaction. But last month, prosecutors filed additional charges accusing Tucker of taking $117,500 from investors in Georgia mobile home parks.

A preliminary hearing for both women is set to begin Nov. 3, Fujimoto said.
