Golf Roundup : Hallberg and Wrenn Tied at Milwaukee

Robert Wrenn and Gary Hallberg--one-time college teammates at Wake Forest--moved into a first-place tie Saturday after three rounds of the rain-delayed $600,000 Greater Milwaukee Open.

Wrenn, despite a bogey on his final hole of the day, shot a 70 and was at 13-under-par 203 after three trips around the 7,030-yard, par-72 Tuckaway Country Club course. Hallberg had a 67.

Second-round leader Larry Ziegler shot an even-par 72 and was tied for the runner-up spot at 204 with Wayne Levi, who had a 68. Fred Couples, who shot a 65, was next at 205, followed by Nick Price, Dan Pohl, Bill Kratzert and Mark Calcavecchia at 206.

The tournament, which was delayed by a rainstorm Thursday, got more rain Saturday. But the weather did not halt play.

Cindy Hill shot a five-under-par 67 to tie Missie Berteotti for the lead after three rounds of the $225,000 LPGA Safeco tournament at Kent, Wash.

Berteotti, in her second year on the LPGA Tour, shot a 70 to match Hill at 8-under-par 208 for 54 holes.

One stroke back was Jan Stephenson, who shared the second-round lead with Berteotti but fell back with a 71.

Nancy Lopez shot the best round of the tournament, a 66, to move into a tie for fourth at 211 with Kathy Postlewait.

Bob Charles of New Zealand fired a six-under-par 66 to take a two-stroke lead entering the final round of the $325,000 Crestar Senior tournament at Richmond, Va.

Charles, at 10-under 134, led Dale Douglass (68), Larry Mowry (69) and Chi Chi Rodriguez (68) by two strokes with Gary Player and Gene Littler another shot back at 137.

Ian Woosnam of Wales shot a three-under-par 69 and and his 198 total gave him a one-stroke lead after three rounds of the $450,000 Lancome Trophy tournament at St. Nom La Breteche, France.

Tony Johnstone of Zimbabwe turned in a 66 and is at 199 for 54-holes. Mark McNulty of Zimbabwe and Sandy Lyle of Britain are next at 202 with American Raymond Floyd, who shot a 65, tied with two others at 203.
