A San Diego man was killed late Monday when he apparently lost control of the motorcycle he was riding.

Police said James Benjamin Sylar, 23, was pronounced dead at UC San Diego Medical Center.

The accident occurred about 11 p.m. in the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 near the Palm Street pedestrian overpass by Lindbergh Field, police said. The motorcycle flipped over on its side, and Sylar was thrown from the seat.
