Local News in Brief : Services Held for Judge Edward Gorman

Funeral services were held on Tuesday in Los Angeles for San Fernando Superior Court Judge Edward I. Gorman, who died Saturday at UCLA Medical Center.

Gorman, 66, who had heart problems, had been hospitalized for a month before he died.

In 1983, Gorman was assigned to the San Fernando Courthouse, where he heard both criminal and civil cases. He was also a Superior Court judge at Sylmar Juvenile Hall for two years and a Municipal Court judge in Los Angeles for a year.

Gorman, who lived in Encino, was appointed to both the Municipal and Superior court benches by former Gov. Jerry Brown.

Before serving as a judge, Gorman was an attorney in private practice. A past president of the Los Angeles Bar Assn., he was active in the San Fernando Valley Bar Assn.

Survivors include his wife, Eleanor; mother, Mary Gorman; and children, Cheryl Benun, Carolyn Flier-Gorman and David Flier, and a grandchild, Danielle Targan.

Services were held at 11 a.m. at Hillside Memorial Park Chapel in Los Angeles.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to Stephanie Gorman Memorial Fund, c/o David Smith, 121 S. Beverly Drive, Beverly Hills, CA 90212.
