Kurt Maschoff of Redondo Beach and David S. Simanton of Hermosa Beach have become volunteers with Big Brothers of Greater Los Angeles. Maschoff is an employee of the U. S. Air Force Station in Los Angeles. Simanton is employed by Boise Cascade.

Rolling Hills Estates resident Florence Siudmak has been elected president of the board of governors of the Los Angeles County arboretum department. The board coordinates activities and communications among the four botanical gardens of Los Angeles County, including the South Coast Botanic Garden on the Palos Verdes Peninsula.

Oncologist John Link of Rolling Hills, medical director of the San Pedro Peninsula Home Care hospice program, has been honored by the San Pedro Peninsula Hospital Foundation Guild and the Friends of Hospice for his leadership and support of the hospice program during the past 10 years.

Rancho Palos Verdes resident David G. Trump has been named vice president for facilities management at Loyola Marymount College. Trump is responsible for maintenance, operational services, security, planning and construction of campus facilities and off-campus housing.

Wendy Leopold of Rolling Hills is the new president of Las Ninas de las Madrecitas, the junior auxiliary of the Crippled Children’s Guild of Orthopaedic Hospital.

Bill Applegate will be honored Saturday when the Torrance-South Bay YMCA holds a tribute dinner at the Torrance Holiday Inn. Applegate, a city councilman, served five terms as chairman of the YMCA board of managers and, in 1983, led a campaign that raised more than $4.2 million for a new family-oriented health and physical education facility.

Urologist Arthur Schapiro has been named medical director for Daniel Freeman Hospitals. Schapiro, of West Los Angeles, will serve primarily as a liaison between the medical staff and administration in the Inglewood and Marina del Rey hospitals.
