A permanent collection of publications on the environment is to be established at the Long Beach Public Library in honor of the late Donald F. Utter, a retired Long Beach schoolteacher and activist in civic and environmental affairs who died July 20.

Establishment of the collection, which will be administered by the Friends of the Long Beach Public Library, was approved by the group’s board of directors, which received contributions totaling more than $5,000 from friends of Utter. Additional contributions may be made payable to Friends of the Long Beach Public Library for the Donald F. Utter Memorial Collection, and mailed to 101 Pacific Ave., Long Beach, Calif., 90802.
