A U.S. Coast Guard cutter patrolling 675 miles off San Diego seized a sailboat ferrying nearly a ton and a half of marijuana, authorities said. Three people on board the sailboat Serenity were arrested when officers from the Coast Guard cutter Venturous boarded the 49-foot boat based in Portland, Ore., Coast Guard Petty Officer Brad Smith said. “Upon boarding the vessel, the Coast Guard found 115 bales of marijuana weighing an estimated 2,900 pounds,” Smith said. Two Americans and a Filipino were arrested on suspicion of possessing marijuana on the high seas, the Coast Guard said. Smith said the marijuana apparently was from Southeast Asia. It was unknown where the Serenity had picked it up.
