Community College Roundup : Augustine Leads Golden West to Win in Women’s Soccer

Shannon Augustine scored three goals to lead Golden West College to a 4-1 victory over Mt. San Antonio Friday in a women’s South Coast Conference soccer match at Golden West. Augustine, a sophomore from Tustin High School, has five goals this season.

Chris Ferguson also scored for Golden West (2-1, 3-1) and Kelly Krebs had three saves. Mt. SAC is 2-1 in conference.

In men’s Orange Empire Conference soccer:

Cypress 4, Orange Coast 4--Dave Vautrin scored on a penalty kick with four minutes remaining to give OCC (2-2-2) a tie at home. Steve Buzzetta scored three goals for Cypress and Bill Montgomery added another. Bill Reinhardt, John Bovetas and Brian Krause also scored for OCC.

In women’s Orange Empire Conference cross-country:

Orange Coast 15, Cypress 50, Citrus 50, Rancho Santiago 50--Lisa Torrez won the hilly three-mile race in 23 minutes 35 seconds to lead the Pirates in a four-way meet at Frank G. Bonelli Park in San Dimas. Maryanne Mejia (24:05) finished second for OCC and teammate Michele Manlapeg (24:22) was fourth. Four OCC runners--Debbie Lies, Delinda Patino, Loi Curl and Tracy Wright--tied for fifth at 24:40.

In men’s Orange Empire Conference cross-country:

Rancho Santiago 15, Cypress 50, Citrus 50, Orange Coast 50--The Dons took the first five places to win the four-way meet at Citrus. Carlos Nava won the race in 22:38. Art Garcia (22:50) was second, Bob Ervin (23:10) third, Dave Moore (23:15) fourth and Manual Adame (23:42) fifth.
