MPI Home Video’s bid to profitably ride Lt. Col. Oliver North’s coattails seems to have backfired. A company spokesman said Tuesday that, so far, 35,000 videocassettes featuring North’s complete Iran- contra hearings testimony have been returned by dealers. Despite the setbacks, MPI hopes to cash in on courtroom drama with “The Confessions of Bernhard Goetz,” scheduled for an Oct. 7 release.
