Time: 7:42 a.m.
Magnitude: 6.0 of the open-ended Richter Scale. By comparison, the 1971 quake in Sylmar was listed as 6.4 on the Richter Scale; the 1906 quake in San Francisco was listed as 8.3
Epicenter: The Whittier Narrows area south of El Monte and north of Whittier, southeast from Pasadena. The quake and at least three after shocks were felt as fat away as Las Vegas, Ventura County and San Diego.
Deaths and Injuries: Two dead, scores injured.
