2 Stakes Winners Head Field for Pomona Derby
A field of 10, headed by Hot and Smoggy and Distant Pal, both stakes winners at the meeting, has been entered for today’s $105,100 Pomona Derby at Fairplex Park on the L.A. County Fairgrounds in Pomona.
Hot and Smoggy won the Foothill Stakes Sept. 17, opening day of the Fair meeting. He will be ridden by Corey Black and will carry co-high weight of 122 pounds.
Distant Pal, who won the Derby Trial Stakes Sept. 26 in a $110 upset, will try for a repeat performance in today’s event, which will be contested at about 1 1/8 miles. Jack Kaenel will ride Distant Pal, who also carries 122 pounds.
