More Freeways, More Pollution
The Times (Sept. 25) said the 15-member citizens traffic committee will be considering the Orange County toll roads problem. Members, one notices, are apparently only developers and builders. Trained and experienced traffic experts? Looks like not one.
Why no environmental quality watchers? Isn’t this thumb-nosing the public? Could they reflect professional highway planning other than: It oughta go this way, or thataway, or “just be sure it goes by my housing development.”
Also, who is “studying” the proposed San Joaquin freeway’s impact on the area’s environmental quality? Will the study be published? If so, will it be free of developer-political whitewash?
