A driver who made an illegal U-turn on a residential street in El Cajon was struck broadside by a sheriff’s patrol car early Saturday morning and taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital’s trauma center, traffic Sgt. Jim Hunnell of the El Cajon Police Department said.

Jacqueline Ruth Golda, 21, is in fair condition. She suffered internal injuries, a pelvic fracture and chest cuts, a hospital spokeswoman said.

A car driven by Sheriff’s Deputy C. Goldberg was westbound in the 1400 block of Lexington Avenue when it struck Golda’s car, which had pulled away from the curb into the path of oncoming traffic, Hunnell said.
