‘TV’s Next Act to Clean Up’
While I commend Frank for attempting to be socially accountable, his limited knowledge of human physiology begs examination given his possible influence over the viewing future of millions of Americans.
The average human body contains “drugs” that are far more potent than any drug used by substance abusers. This is not to advocate self-abuse by drugs or alcohol. But mere use is not abuse; I would rather be afflicted with one drink too many than to be struck by a stray bullet or knife (two events that occur far more regularly on TV than alcohol consumption).
Many killers have been depicted on television in a sympathetic light. Does this increase the amount of killers in our society? Does this make us more tolerant toward them?
Will American television viewers really benefit by replacing “Cagney & Lacey” with “Ruthless People?”
Clearly, profiting solely from the lust of violence is “TV’s Next Act to Clean Up.”
