Marcos Doing Well After Minor Surgery
Former Philippine President Ferdinand E. Marcos underwent successful minor surgery for removal of a non-malignant tumor on his parathyroid gland, a hospital spokeswoman said Wednesday.
The spokeswoman for St. Francis Medical Center said that Marcos, 70, was doing well after the surgery, performed Tuesday afternoon, and could be released soon.
The parathyroid gland controls the calcium content of the blood.
Marcos, who has lived in Hawaii since he was deposed in February, 1986, suffered from hyper-parathyroidism, a condition that caused calcium deposits on his shrapnel-damaged knee and made it difficult for him to walk.
“It causes him to limp, so with this particular minor surgery, hopefully it would be able to correct that and remove the pain in his knee,” Marcos spokesman Gemmo Trinidad said.
