A Lancaster man was killed and his passenger was injured early Thursday when their pickup truck went out of control and flipped in Bouquet Canyon north of Saugus, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Brian Reynolds, 23, was killed about 12:30 a.m. when he was thrown from the truck and the vehicle turned over on top of him, Officer Don North said. His passenger Dennis Stidham, 24, also of Lancaster, remained in the truck and suffered back injuries.

North said the pickup was heading south in the 30000 block of Bouquet Canyon Road at an estimated 80 m.p.h. North said 40 m.p.h. is considered safe on the curving road. The truck struck a rocky embankment, then flipped over, he said.
