A pedestrian who police believe was “a street person” was killed Saturday by an RTD bus as he crossed a Hollywood street, police said.

A bus traveling east on Hollywood Boulevard at about 1:45 p.m had turned south on Vine Street and was “moving slowly” when it struck the man, who witnesses said had run across the street on a red light, Sgt. Jeff Siggers said.

Officers said they did not know if the man had fallen before being hit by the bus.

Police said they would not release the name of the 25-year-old victim until they notified next of kin.

The bus driver did not feel the impact, Siggers said, and was alerted to the accident by people on the sidewalk who pounded on the side of the bus.

The man, who was trapped under the bus and dragged about 25 feet, was pronounced dead at the scene, Siggers said. He was wearing white jeans, a red tank top and was carrying a purse, police said.
