Development Issues Topics at Conference
Issues, challenges and opportunities facing the development industry from now until the year 2000 will be examined at the 20th annual conference of the National Assn. of Industrial and Office Parks from Tuesday through Saturday at the Century Plaza Hotel.
The expected 750 people at the conference would make it the largest turnout ever for the 66-chapter international (U.S. and Canada) organization, according to Lynda and Blaine Fetter, in charge of the event.
Speakers will include Nobel Prize-winning economist Paul A. Samuelson; F.G. (Buck) Rodgers, former vice president of worldwide marketing for IBM; John C. Cushman III, president and chief executive officer of Cushman Realty Co., Los Angeles; Los Angeles Planning Commission President Daniel T. Garcia; Robert D. Voit, president of the Voit Cos., Woodland Hills, and D. Quinn Mills, professor of business administration at Harvard Business School.
On Thursday, Samuelson will present an economic forecast for the next dozen years; Rodgers will speak Thursday on “The Need to Be Market Driven; on Friday, Mills will speak on “Strategic Planning for the Year 2000.”
Voit and Garcia will examine growth management issues from the perspective of both the private and the public sector, while Cushman will address the conference Saturday with a “Los Angeles Market Overview.”
Two project tours Saturday will show conferees the Southland’s state-of-the-art office and industrial developments. The first will focus on high-rise and mixed-use projects in Los Angeles, the Westside and the San Fernando and San Gabriel valleys and will include a walking tour of downtown Los Angeles.
The second tour will concentrate on industrial, research and development and office developments in the South Bay area. Both tours will be coordinated by Cushman Realty and Grubb & Ellis.
