Drizzle to Continue Until Tonight

A misty drizzle will continue to fall on San Diego through this evening, but is not expected to cause any serious problems on the county’s streets and highways, authorities said.

The cool and cloudy weather that settled into San Diego early Sunday will stay through at least early Tuesday, said Patricia Cooper, staff meteorologist for WeatherData, which provides forecasting information for The Times.

Only a few areas of the county reported receiving measurable rainfall in the 24-hour period ending at 4 p.m. Sunday, according to the National Weather Service. Del Mar and Montgomery Field received 0.02 of an inch, and 0.01 of an inch fell at Lindbergh Field.

There were no reports of road closures due to Sunday’s drizzle, and no serious accidents were attributed to the dampened streets, authorities said.

“It’s just enough to keep your windshield wipers on, but there’s no real problems,” a California Highway Patrol spokeswoman said.

The gray, cool, drizzly weather is the result of a strong onshore flow combining with a deep marine layer, National Weather Service forecaster Dan Atkin said.

Temperatures will remain 4 to 8 degrees below normal for this time of year. The high at Lindbergh Field struggled to reach 66 degrees on Sunday. Normal for mid-October is 71.

Inland highs also reached only into the mid- to upper 60s on Sunday, while normal for this time is around 74 degrees.
