San Diego
Two sailors stationed aboard the San Diego-based aircraft carrier Constellation are being held in connection with the on-board death last August of a Navy airman, a Navy spokesman said.
Alejo Hernandez Jr. of Rosharon, Tex., and Marc Charles Delevieleuse of Stockbridge, Ga., are in the 32nd Street Brig on suspicion of premeditated murder, robbery and murder committed during a robbery, Chief Petty Officer Craig M. Huebler said.
Both men are 20 and are seamen.
The body of the victim, Martin Thomas Sturdy, 21, of Chandler, Ariz., was not found and the exact cause of death is not known, Huebler said.
“However, from an investigation on board ship, it appears Sturdy may have been hit on the head and then stabbed before being thrown overboard. Robbery appears to have been the motive,” Huebler said.
The incident occurred on board the Constellation Aug. 6 in the North Arabian Sea during a six-month Western Pacific deployment, Huebler said.
