Smoke Screens Fiery Trading
CHICAGO — Commodity traders already working in a heated atmosphere got a bit of smoke on their way to the futures pits Tuesday at the Chicago Board of Trade, a spokesman for the exchange said.
CBOT spokesman Bill Murschel said the smoke that swirled briefly in the lobby on the fourth floor of the exchange, where nearly all of the trading pits are located, was the result of an overheated motor on an escalator strip one floor lower.
“Trading wasn’t affected in the least,” Murschel said. “But given the events of yesterday and today, you don’t want rumors floating around.”
