No Tricks in Forecast; Treaters Should Be Dry

Although the weekend is expected to end up rather wet, as another storm moves into the San Diego area, Halloween trick-or-treaters should be able to tromp through dry neighborhoods, according to forecasters who aren’t expecting showers until late Saturday night.

“It’s hard to say how much rain we’ll get with this storm, but we don’t anticipate its arrival until late Saturday night, or possibly not even until Sunday morning,” National Weather Service forecaster Wilbur Shigehara said.

For the most part, San Diegans can expect sunny skies with scattered clouds and warmer temperatures today and Saturday.

“We’ll see increasing clouds on Saturday, with temperatures gradually cooling to below seasonable levels Saturday and Sunday as a result of the clouds and the possibility of showers,” according Mike Smith of WeatherData, which provides forecasts for The Times.

Expected to Linger

The weekend storm--which is expected to linger off-and-on through the middle of next week--is caused by a low pressure system moving toward the Southern California coast from the Gulf of Alaska, according to Shigehara.

“San Diego will be under the influence of this low pressure until around Wednesday of next week,” according to Shigehara. “San Diegans should prepare for stop-and-go rain till then.”

Humidity is expected to be at about 80% Saturday and Sunday, down slightly from the humidity that accompanied the storm that hit the area two days ago.

Wednesday’s rainfall totaled 0.47 of an inch in the Palomar Mountain area but created no mud slides or flooding problems, according to a spokeswoman at California Department of Forestry.

Lindbergh Field received 0.23 of an inch of rain; Chula Vista, 0.35; El Cajon, 0.30; Del Mar, 0.24, and Mount Laguna, 0.91.

Coastal highs are expected to climb to 75 degrees today, gradually decreasing a few degrees Saturday and Sunday, with lows dropping to 60 to 63 degrees.

Surf will remain at two to four feet today, increasing a foot on Saturday. The ocean temperature is 66.

Temperatures Decreasing

Inland valleys will have temperatures in the 70- to 75-degree range today, with lows dropping to 55 to 64 degrees. Saturday and Sunday will see temperatures decreasing to about 69 to 74 degrees, with lows from 58 to 62 degrees both days.

Increasing clouds in the mountain areas will keep high temperatures down to 55 to 65 degrees with lows at about 38 to 45 degrees today. Saturday and Sunday highs will range from 52 to 62 degrees, with lows dropping to a cool 37 to 48 degrees.

Desert highs will run from about 82 to 89 degrees today, with highs down slightly to 80 to 85 degrees through the rest of the weekend. Lows all three days will remain from 59 to 65 degrees.
