Veteran KCBS-TV newsman Bill Stout has been hospitalized as a result of complications from a heart attack that he apparently did not know he had suffered several months ago, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles TV station said.

Spokeswoman Andi Sporkin said Stout, 59, was taken to an unidentified hospital Wednesday after complaining of shortness of breath and hoarseness in his voice. He was reported in an intensive care unit in stable condition, officials said.

but was expected to be transferred to a private room, she said.

“His wife says he’s been crabby but alert,” Sporkin said.

Stout, who last appeared on the air Oct. 20, is a commentator on the station’s weekday newscasts and is moderator of its “Newsmakers” public affairs program.
