A fourth beating involving an athlete from San Dieguito High School has been uncovered, the San Diego County district attorney’s office said Monday.

Former wrestler Lawrence Jeffery Penacho, 18, already facing charges in two incidents, was charged with misdemeanor battery stemming from an alleged attack Nov. 14, 1986, outside the Round Table Pizza restaurant in Encinitas, after a San Dieguito-Vista High football game.

Prosecutors allege that Penacho and three or four friends beat two Cardiff men with their fists after Penacho showered the two with beer.

The two Cardiff men, Wade Walsvick and Lance Waite, both 22, said they reported the incident to a coach at San Dieguito but nothing happened. They called the Sheriff’s Department on Aug. 24 after Penacho was among nine current or former San Dieguito athletes charged in three other beatings.

Penacho, who graduated in June, faces misdemeanor battery charges in an April 26 attack on a Palomar College student and a felony battery charge in a May 30 attack on a San Dieguito student. Walsvick and Waite said Penacho was the only one of their attackers they could identify.
