With the Super Bowl just around the corner, San Diego City Council members on Monday voted to spend $900,000 to add more seats to San Diego Jack Murphy Stadium for the highly publicized football championship game. The money will pay for the construction of 20,361 temporary seats, which represents the second phase of a recent expansion at the stadium. In April, 1986, 675 permanent seats were added to the stadium’s upper level and press box. Super Bowl XXII will be played at the stadium Jan. 31.
