Two people were killed and four injured, one critically, when two cars and a truck-trailer rig loaded with live turkeys collided on California 99 in Bakersfield. Highway Patrol officers said a car driven by Daniel Almanza, 30, of Lamont, pulled onto the freeway at high speed and skidded into the path of the rig. Upon impact, Almanza’s car spun around and into the path of the second car. The rig overturned on the center divider, dumping the turkeys and pinning the driver in the wreckage. Almanza and the truck driver, whose identity was withheld until relatives could be notified, were killed.
