SEVILLE, Spain —
The eighth game of the world chess championship was adjourned Monday night with the challenger, Anatoly Karpov, sealing his 42nd move against titleholder Gary Kasparov.
Experts said Kasparov, playing white, retained a substantial advantage and is likely to press hard for victory when play resumes today.
After seven games, Karpov leads 4-3. The winner of the 24-game series requires 12 1/2 points or six victories.
