Mayweather Wins Title on Knockout in Sixth
Roger Mayweather knocked out Rene Arredondo of Mexico in the sixth round Thursday night at the Sports Arena to win the World Boxing Council junior-welterweight title.
Mayweather, 26, of Las Vegas, used a powerful right hand to drop Arredondo three times in the round. Following the knockout, Arredondo, also 26, remained on the canvas for approximately five minutes.
Mayweather, ranked fifth by the WBC, has won his last six fights. He improved to 29-5 with 20 knockouts. Arredondo fell to 39-4 with 34 knockouts.
Both fighters weighed 139 pounds.
