Two teen-age boys died Friday when they were thrown from a car that went out of control and flipped over twice on a mountain road north of Sunland, the California Highway Patrol said.

A third boy, the driver of the car, was not injured, Officer Sheri Klassen said. She said the boys were traveling south on Big Tujunga Canyon Road at about 45 m.p.h. when their Ford Escort went out of control. The driver apparently pressed on the gas pedal accidentally as the car began to slide, Klassen said.

The accident occurred about 12:45 p.m. in the 4101 block of Big Tujunga Canyon Road. Authorities had not determined the identities of the dead boys, Klassen said. The name of the driver was not released.
