Action for Children’s Television wants news programs for children and this week launched a campaign to sell the idea to TV broadcasters and cable operators. The Cambridge, Mass.-based public-interest group says NBC’s “Main Street,” a one-hour show aired monthly and repackaged as a 30-minute weekly series in the summer, is the only network news program aimed at children currently on the air. The Public Broadcasting Service plans a news magazine show for children next fall. Similar programs by local stations are “few and far between,” the group said.
