Imperial Beach

The coastline along Imperial Beach was reopened Tuesday for swimming and other water activities for the first time since sewage-contaminated water closed the area earlier this month, a county Health Services Department spokesman said.

The warning signs that were posted Nov. 4 were removed from the southern end of Sea Coast Drive all the way to Carnation Avenue at the northern Imperial Beach City limits. The action came after water samples taken of the area during the last several days showed that water quality met the standards for recreational activities, the spokesman said.

However, the beach from the Mexican border to Sea Coast Drive will remain posted as a precautionary measure, the spokesman said.

Testing of the waters off Imperial Beach will continue, to ensure that water quality remains acceptable for swimming and other activities, the spokesman said.
