Manhattan Beach OKs Proposal for Arts Enrichment

Share

The Manhattan Beach City Council has unanimously approved in concept a report of a cultural arts subcommittee calling for a program to bring artists and performers to the city and put art in public places.

Council members Jan Dennis and Larry Dougharty will meet with members of the subcommittee to discuss details of administration and funding.

In the report, the subcommittee requested that 1% of the money spent on major capital improvement projects be devoted to the arts, as well as 1% of the city’s hotel bed tax. In fiscal year 1985-86 those funds would have exceeded $56,000, according to subcommittee Chairman Robert Miller.

A final version of the proposal will be reviewed at the council’s Dec. 1 meeting.
